Common Medicare Questions
Answers from your local Medicare advisor
When can I enroll in Medicare?
You can enroll during your Initial Enrollment Period, which starts three months before your 65th birthday and lasts seven months total. If you delayed enrollment due to employer coverage, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Each fall, from October 15 to December 7, the Annual Enrollment Period allows you to review and change your plan for the following year.
What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement?
Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurers and combine hospital, medical, and often prescription coverage in one plan with set networks. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policies, on the other hand, work alongside Original Medicare to cover costs like deductibles and copays while giving you the freedom to see any Medicare-approved doctor, hospital, or service provider. We help you compare both to find the right balance of cost and flexibility.
Do I need a Medicare broker to sign up?
You can enroll on your own, but a Medicare consultant provides expert guidance that helps you avoid coverage gaps or costly mistakes. At Safe Hands Insurance Services, we explain each plan in plain language and make sure your choices align with your health needs and budget. There’s no additional cost for our help. Your premiums remain the same, while receiving individualized unbiased guidance.
What if I’m healthy—do I still need a drug plan?
Even if you rarely use prescriptions, it’s smart to enroll in a Part D drug plan when first eligible. Medicare imposes lifetime penalties for delaying coverage, and having a plan ensures you’re protected if your medication needs change later. We’ll help you choose a low-cost option that keeps you covered without unnecessary expense.
Can I change my Medicare plan after enrolling?
Yes. You can switch plans during the Annual Enrollment Period each fall l, or you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if your situation changes, such as moving or losing coverage. Our team provides year-round support to review your plan and adjust if needed, ensuring your Medicare coverage always fits your needs.
